How To Make A Jigsaw Puzzle Free Guide

Jigsaw puzzles go back to the 1760’s when European mapmakers pasted maps onto wood and cut them into small pieces. John Spilsbury, an engraver and mapmaker, is credited with inventing the first jigsaw puzzle in 1767. The dissected map has been a successful educational toy ever since. American children still learn geography by playing with puzzle maps of the United States.

There are two types of jigsaw puzzles. Wooden and paperboard puzzles. Wooden jigsaws are more costly but last longer and have a higher quality feel to them. Where as the paperboard versions are much lighter and cheaper, yet much less durable as the pieces wear out rather quickly.

To create jigsaw puzzles from scratch requires a bit more effort. If your creating a wooden puzzle, first you must print your chosen image with special sticker paper. When you have your image, glue it to the appropriate sized wooden board. When the glue dries, you can begin cutting it into the shapes and piece count of your choice. The most popular way to cut puzzles is with a jigsaw cutter or band saw.

You can use a handle held cutter but these can be more dangerous and harder to maneuver while making your cuts. The stand up band saws are much easier to use and make precision cuts. These machines can be very dangerous and safety precautions should always be in place. ShopsmithV,Model520
