The New Yorker magazine debuted in February of 1925 when Harold Ross and his wife Jane Grant (a reporter for the New York Times) wanted to create a sophisticated humor magazine. Now, although the magazine still boasts elements of humor, it is more well-known for its publication of serious fiction. There is at least one short story in every issue, as well as literary reviews, journalism on politics and social issues, and many single-panel cartoons.
The magazine is also very well-known for its illustrated and often topical covers. Because of this, several covers have been turned into beautiful jigsaw puzzles. We have 19 New Yorker cover jigsaw puzzles that are very fun and popular. Not only is the art charming, these covers are a little piece of history. You can see how things have changed through time. For instance, in the beginning, the magazine cost just 15 cents. As you go through the years, you can see it jumps up to 20 cents, then $1.50… eventually landing at $5.99.
Check out these New Yorker winter-themed magazine covers that we offer. Make a night of doing one of these puzzles and reading some works by some of the very famous authors that had stories published in one of the issues (from John Cheever to Roald Dahl to Haruki Murakami to J.D. Salinger) for a very cultured night in!
