Puzzle of the Day – Chat Noir

Today’s puzzle brings you back to 19th century France. More precisely, it brings you closer to the bohemian district of Paris, Montmartre, and to its famous cabaret, Le Chat Noir (French for “The Black Cat”). Opened by Rodolphe Salis, an artist, Le Chat Noir soon became famous as a place where you could stumble not only upon artists, but also upon some of the most famous men in France, if you believe the publicity of Salis himself.

Euro Graphics brings you this week’s puzzle of the day, a jigsaw puzzle representing a famous advertising for a tour of the cabaret artists to other cities. The original poster, safely displayed in a museum, is the work of Theophile Steinen, a Swiss-born painter and printmaker. The jigsaw puzzle is itself a work of art, featuring no less than 1000 pieces. With 19.25 x 26.5 inches, it is made from recycled board, printed on recycled paper with vegetable based ink.

You will definitely have to admire the superior quality of this beautiful jigsaw puzzle—at least as much as the image it depicts. It will not give you headaches, as it isn’t a difficult puzzle, but that does not mean you can’t enjoy it. The picture stands for something and it represents a rare work of art with a 19th century touch that will perfectly fit any of the walls in your house.

This is the kind of jigsaw puzzle that, once assembled, will never go back in the box, so you’d better buy some glue and a frame from the start.

Puzzle of the Day – Baffler-Nonagon

Today’s jigsaw puzzle of the day is no regular jigsaw puzzle. It is aptly called the Baffler-Nonagon, also known as the most unique puzzle ever. A tricky piece of artwork, each puzzle is randomly design and cut in the oddest ways possible. The result, as you might suspect, is at least unexpected. 67 unique shapes with no straight edges and no overlapping images are made to guarantee you tons of fun.

Made by Chris Yates for Ceaco, the Baffler-Nonagon is a small puzzle, ideal for a unique experience. While it might not prove as hard to assemble as you might think the first time you see it, it certainly requires a different approach than traditional jigsaw puzzles. Its unique shape and pieces require a great deal of creativity and will work your imagination and puzzle making skills in quite an intense way.

You can even use it in a contest with your friends, and see who can assemble it the fastest, or who can assemble it the fastest without looking at the reference picture on the box. The weird looking pieces are certainly confusing and, until you get used to them, won’t let you set any world records.

At Puzzle Warehouse you can find the Baffler-Nonagon at an amazing price, and if you don’t feel up to the challenge yourself, you can offer it as a gift. After all, it is one of the most unique puzzles in the world, and unique gifts never go unappreciated.

Puzzle of the Day – The Black Last Supper

Traditionally, most Christian art depicts religious icons like Jesus and the apostles as white. This is because most of this art originated in white European countries, where the dominant races were white. Just as the Bible says that God created man in his own image, societies tend to depict God as looking like them. It helps people relate to Jesus if he looks like he could be an uncle or neighbor.

What many people don’t think about is that most of the Bible took place in Middle Eastern and North African countries like Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Syria. Therefore, it is very likely that Jesus and his apostles were actually not white, but instead black or Arabic. Today’s jigsaw puzzle of the day, The Black Last Supper puzzle by artist Bev Lopez, acknowledges this.

A supper is a supper, no matter who you share it with, and the significance of the moment can only increase if you feel spiritually connected with the people of the table. A better looking body, a taller body, darker hair or lighter skin doesn’t make any difference.

Get The Black Last Supper 1000 Piece 20″ x 27″ jigsaw puzzle from Puzzle Warehouse, assemble it, and it will remind you from time to time of the most important moments in your life, the people you most care about and what makes them so special to you: their soul. The significance of the image goes beyond its obvious religious connection and purpose and teaches a lesson everybody should know. Judging people based on their physical attributes or on any other similar feature is not only meaningless but also harmful.

What is soft, has a moist nose and loves to purr? Here is a hint: it says, “meow.”
