How to Glue a Puzzle Together

Puzzle glue to glue a puzzle together

After you’ve worked for hours or days on a complex, beautiful puzzle, what next? Do you admire it for a moment and then take it apart? Consider gluing your puzzle together instead, to preserve your great work.

Materials needed:
Your completed puzzle.
A large piece of cardboard to use as a work surface.
Glue (Mod Podge and rubber cement work well. Hobby stores also sell special puzzle glue).
A foam brush.

First, you will need to very slowly and carefully slip the cardboard under your puzzle. Working from one end, carefully lift an edge of your puzzle, slip the edge of the cardboard underneath, and release the puzzle edge on top. Slowly inch the cardboard down the length of the puzzle. *Tip: Assembling your puzzle on top of the cardboard would eliminate this step.

Next, use your sponge brush to spread your glue over the top of your puzzle. Cover a few sections at a time, ensuring that you have complete coverage and a thin coat. Continue until the entire surface is covered, cleaning any stray drops as they occur.

Allow this coat to completely dry, and then repeat. After the second coat is dry, you should feel as though you can tug on the puzzle and not feel it will pull apart.

At this point, very carefully turn the puzzle over on its face and repeat the gluing process. Again, apply two coats, allowing each to dry thoroughly. If you like, you may add as many coats equally to both sides as you’d like until you are satisfied that the puzzle is secure.

When the final coat is dry, you have completed the task of gluing your puzzle together! Now you can tack up your beautiful project on the wall, display it on a desk, attach it to a piece of wood or even frame it so that you and your loved ones can enjoy it for ever.

Finding the Perfect Fit: Jigsaw Puzzle Strategies

Dealing with anxiety as a child was not easy at all. I was nervous, anxious, small, and was frequently bored which led to acting out. As i got older, I found that doing something with my mind and my hands kept my anxiety and boredom at bay.

When I was about nine or ten years old, my grandfather began doing jigsaw puzzles with me. I completed my first 100 piece puzzle in less than an hour! (I though that was really something!) Now that I’m older and my son is getting older, I’d love to try puzzles with him.

Jigsaw puzzles, are a wonderful way to do something in your spare time that keeps your brain sharp and your nerves on an even keel! First, start with puzzles that aren’t too hard for you, (Perhaps up to 150 pieces) so you stay on track and aren’t discouraged enough to bail before you finish the puzzle.

Secondly, I separate the pieces that have at least one straight edge from the others without one. I find it helpful to start by putting the edges together first- that seems to be the least diffucult way to begin. Once the outside edges have been completed, the inside seems much easier for me to fill in. My next tip is to find similar colors and attempt to put them together as well…the edges can give you a clue as to which pieces can be a perfect fit. Just jeep trying and dont be afraid to take a break if you need one.
