Remembering 9/11

I love New York City. As a city that I have visited twice and lived in for my freshman year of college, it has a particularly special place in my heart.

I have visited Ground Zero when the rubble was still being cleared away five years later, as well as a WTC museum that still affects me to this day, with the quotes from the answering machines left on loved ones’ phones from the victims on the plane to the hundreds of missing posters on display that are both still prominently in my memory.

I lived in Brooklyn during the construction of One World Trade Center; I visited my friends a year later and had the privilege to visit the new Memorial Plaza, both beautiful and devastating with the pools whose walls are inscribed with the names of the 2,983 people that died.

Today we are all somber and reflective, remembering those we have lost in Flight 93, the Trade Centers, and in the Pentagon, as well as the strength of a city and nation that banded together.
